After passing the Bill to establish the Agriculture and Forestry University
(AFU) in June 2010 the Government of Nepal (GoN), Nepal's first state-owned
technical university Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) was
established. It has three faculties, the Faculty of Agriculture (FOA), the
Faculty of Animal Science, Veterinary Science and Fisheries (FAVF), and the
Faculty of Forestry (FOF).
Among the three faculties, the Faculty of Forestry (FOF), which is situated
in Hetauda, Makawanpur, is vital within Agriculture and Forestry University
considering the scope of work in the changing global environmental context.
The FOF aspires to develop/grow as an education center of excellence and
specialization in Forestry, Environment, and related Natural Resources
Management founded on sustainability principles. The core purpose of the
faculty is to ensure the timely production and supply of qualified human
resources with the right attitude, together with appropriate and innovative
practical solutions, technologies, and approaches for the forest,
environment, and related natural resources management. Efforts of the
faculty of forestry are directed to become the number one ranking
institution in higher education in forestry, environment, and related
natural resources management field in Nepal.
The FOF's values and principles are broadly based on the University's values
and principles. Thus, the leadership, excellence, innovation, integrity, and
partnership are the values and principles of this faculty.
This faculty has eight departments consisting of 16 qualified faculty
members involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses with the
support of 35 administrative and technical staff members. The Faculty of
Forestry (FOF) started the academic program in 2013 with B. Sc. in Forestry,
and currently, the faculty has running two years master degree in General
Forestry and the PhD in Forestry under Directorate of Post Graduate
Programme. Since 2019, the FOF has run a bachelor's degree in its
constituent college as College of Natural Resources Management (CNRM) at
Katari, Udaipur District, and an affiliated Shiddant College (at Susta
Purba, Nawalparasi district) with a capacity of 50 students each.
